Rights of Patients and Their Relatives
This has been prepared to inform patients and their relatives receiving services from BHT CLINIC Istanbul Tema Hospital about patient rights and responsibilities determined by international agreements and national regulations.
Humans are born with certain rights simply by being human. The concept of rights is a universal concept. Briefly, a right can be defined as "the authority that legal rules grant to individuals".
Human rights can be briefly described as all human beings being born equal and free in every respect. This freedom is balanced by the obligation to respect the rights of others and not to violate these rights.
Patient Rights Expressed in the Patient Rights Regulation:
- General benefit from services: To benefit from activities aimed at promoting healthy living within the framework of justice and fairness principles and preventive health services,
- Equal access to services: To receive services without regard to race, language, religion and sect, gender, political opinion, philosophical belief, economic and social conditions,
- Information: To learn about all kinds of services and facilities available,
- Choosing and changing the institution: To choose and change the health institution and benefit from the health services provided at the chosen health institution,
- Knowing, choosing and changing personnel: To learn, choose and change the identities, duties and titles of physicians and other personnel who will provide and are providing health services,
- Requesting information: To request all kinds of information about health status verbally and in writing,
- Privacy: To receive all kinds of health services in an environment suitable for confidentiality,
- Consent and permission: To obtain consent in medical interventions and benefit from the service within the framework of consent,
- Refusing and stopping: To refuse treatment or request its termination,
- Security: To receive health services in a safe environment,
- Fulfilling religious obligations: To fulfill religious obligations within the scope of the institution's facilities and within the framework of measures taken by the administration,
- Receiving respect: To receive health services with a friendly, kind, compassionate approach by showing respect, care and attention,
- Comfort: To receive health services in an environment where all hygienic conditions are provided and all noise and disturbing factors are eliminated,
- Visit: To accept visitors in accordance with the procedures and principles determined by institutions and organizations,
- Having a companion: To request having a companion within the scope of legislation, health institutions and organizations' facilities and when the physician deems appropriate,
- Application, complaint and lawsuit right: In case of violation of their rights, to use all kinds of application, complaint and lawsuit rights within the framework of legislation,
- Continuous service: To benefit from health services as long as necessary,
- Expressing opinions: They have the right to express their opinions about the services provided.
As BHT CLINIC Istanbul Tema Hospital, we know the rights of our patients and we protect our rights together with our healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities of Patients and Their Relatives
1. General Responsibilities
- Individuals should do their best to take care of their own health and follow the recommendations given for a healthy life.
- If appropriate, a person can donate blood or organs.
- In simple cases, individuals should take care of themselves.
2. Social Security Status
- The patient is obliged to report changes in health, social security and personal information in a timely manner.
- The patient is obliged to have their health card (such as Bağ-Kur, Green Card) visa done on time.
3. Informing Healthcare Workers
- Patient must provide their complaints,
- Previous illnesses,
- Whether they have received any inpatient treatment,
- If any, current medications they are using,
- All health-related information completely and accurately.
4. Complying with Hospital Rules
- The patient must comply with the rules and practices of the health institution they apply to.
- The patient must comply with the referral chain determined by the Ministry of Health and other social security institutions.
- The patient must cooperate with healthcare workers during treatment, care and recovery.
- If the patient is using a health facility that provides appointment services; they must comply with the date and time of the appointment and notify the relevant place of changes.
- The patient must respect the rights of hospital staff, other patients and visitors.
- The patient is obliged to compensate for damage caused to hospital materials.
5. Complying with Treatment-Related Recommendations
- The patient should listen carefully to recommendations about treatment and medications and ask about parts they do not understand.
- If the patient cannot comply with treatment-related recommendations, they should inform the healthcare worker.
- The patient should indicate whether they understand the health care and post-discharge care plan correctly as expected.
- The patient should know that they are responsible for the consequences of refusing the treatment to be applied or not following the recommendations.
